Israel Green Movement News Bytes

1.  The Israel Green Movement now has a LinkedIn Group and it can be found at this link.

LinkedIn is an on line network of more than 30 million experienced professionals from around the world, representing 150 industries. LinkedIn groups provide a good way to expand the network of people that have access to you, with the added advantage of a shared interest or characteristic.

As we develop a global base of support for the Israel Green Movement, our LinkedIn group will be one place for supporters from around the globe to interact. Join now!  (Submitted by Dr. Bob Goldwasser, Director of Anglo Outreach with the IGM):

2. The Unofficial Blog (which is pretty much official…) welcomes two new writers – Liat Racin and Simon Marriott:

Liat Racin - Blogging from the Arava

Liat Racin is currently a Program Assistant at the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies. She earned her M.A. from the War Studies Department at King’s College, London, and her B.A. in International Relations  from the American University in Washington D.C. Before pursuing her M.A. she  worked at the United States-Israel Science and Technology Foundation, and interned for various socio-ecological organizations including Friends of the Earth Middle East, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars’ Environmental Change and Security Program, and the Greater Washington D.C. Hadassah Chapter.

She is committed to projects that advance environmental conservation via public health initiatives, and will be writing on Israel Green Movement events and personalities in the Arava.

Simon Marriott, who will be writing on IGM issues in Haifa, as well as general environmental issues in Israel, will be profiled soon.

On our way to the Israel Green Movement primaries!

Invitation to the green celebration and primaries

Invitation to the green celebration and primaries

First and foremost: Green Movement Celebration and Primaries – all the public is invited for the celebration, members invited to vote.  So come to the Kibbutz Seminar Center in Ramat Aviv this Friday, at 8:45 through the afternoon to celebrate with us.  If you are a voting member, candidate profiles in Hebrew are here.  About 10 of the candidates are also profiled in English on our site.

Otherwise, so much to report – The Green Movement is involved in several environmental campaigns, two new writers have joined our blog, new Facebook groups – including one in English for locals and one for Israel Green Movement friends abroad, and several articles covering our press conference yesterday (one in English here and one in Hebrew here, with video coverage of Eran Ben Yemini and Alon Tal at the press conference).  But, alas, I have my day job to worry about and the primaries are coming up, so I can’t write more now.

When I get back, I’ll report on the results of the primaries and we’ll get many more items of interest up on the blog.  So, more soon and here’s to a greener, more economically and socially just Israel!

A Green Israel Engagement

Engaged on the cliffs of the Ramon Crater

Engaged on the cliffs of the Ramon Crater

The Israel Green Movement (ok, really this blogger, on behalf of the IGM) would like to congratulate Noam Dolgin and Valerie Levitt on their recent engagement.  Noam – the chairperson of the Green Zionist Alliance in North America and environmental educator extraordinaire – is also a longtime friend of many Israel Green Movement members.  Moreover, the engagement took place on the oh-so-romantic cliffs of the Ramon Crater while Noam and Valerie were participating in the Hazon-Arava Institute Israel Bike Ride.  One seldom has so much important symbolism in one engagement!  We wish Noam and Valerie and long and fulfilling life together.
